Who We Are

Blaken Press is an artist run print shop specializing in graphic design and custom T-shirts located in the San Fernando Valley of Los, Angeles, CA. Established in 2015, Blaken Press was started by illustrator and designer Jeremy Berger.

Originally from the Central Valley of California, Jeremy relocated to Los Angeles to attend Design school at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where he studied illustration and printmaking. Upon graduating, Jeremy went to work in the apparel industry where he designed for brands such as Harley Davidson, Wrangler Jeans, Fasthouse Moto and Amazon just to name a few. During his work as an artist and designer in the apparel industry, Jeremy learned how art was conceived, prepped and produced for apparel and saw a need for a printshop that was artist-run, had the attention to detail and communication that larger production factories were lacking. The new Blaken Press Printshop was born!

What does Blaken Press mean?

Blaken, (usually pronounced blay-ken in the US) comes from the Dutch word Blāken that means to scorch or to burn. This name was chosen during Jeremy’s work as a relief printmaker; an analog process that involves carving/printing a substrate such as wood or linoleum that is typically printed in black ink leaving a bold, high contrast image-imprint. The name stuck and Jeremy still uses his 100 year old etching press to make limited-edition art prints and T-shirts, some of which is available in the shop.
